Description:
Very similar to Phyllodocidae but with a single pair of very big, lensed eyes. An exclusively pelagic family of long, slender, delicate, transparent phyllodociform polychaetes. Prostomium with five, sometimes four, more rarely six, antennae. There may be three, four or five pairs of tentacular cirri. Parapodial cirri are foliaceous, the parapodia bearing both compound and simple chaetae (Alciopidae).
