Description:
Morphologically indistinguishable from Platynereis dumerilii , but with a different reproduction. P. massiliensis reproduces in an atokous condition, being a protandric hermaphrodite, whilst P. dumerilii has separate sexes and breeds by epigamy.
Size:
Rarely more than 50 mm.
Colour:
Living female with eggs green.
Distribution:
Eastern Atlantic, Mediterranean, southern North Sea, Kattegat.
