Description:
Body twisted to right. Thorax with three chaetigers, mid-body region without chaetae, abdomen with up to 20 chaetigers.
Opercular plate oblique, slightly concave talon broad but short with an indentation proximally.
Collar chaetae are capillary chaetae and geniculate chaetae with a sharp knee and teeth confined to the outer margin.
2nd and 3rd pair of bundles on thorax with normal capillary chaetae. Apomatus-chaetae absent. Neuropodia are tori with uncini.
Abdominal neuropodial chaetae are strongly geniculate with coarse teeth confined to the outer margin of the distal part. Notopodia are tori with uncini.

Up to 23 chaetigers.
Tube:
Thick-walled, porcellaneous and opaque, coil diameter up to 2 mm.
Colour:
Transparent.
Habitat:
Nominal subspecies on Homarus and Palinurus .
Subspecies Circeis armoricana fragilis on the algae Laminaria and Saccorhiza .
Subspecies Circeis armoricana paguri on the hermit crab Pagurus bernhardus .
Distribution:
Arctic, North Pacific, North Atlantic, North Sea to Skagerrak and Bay of Kiel. California, Mexico, Japan.
