Description:
Body short, cylindrical, with relatively long segments posteriorly.
16-17 pairs of radioli, most with side-branches (a few without), not connected by a membrane. Most radioli distally, often also subdistally with leaf-like lamellae.
Peristomium without eyes. Two palps.
Collar is quite short with a ventral and lateral grooves.
Thorax with 8, abdomen with up to 10 chaetigers.
Two kinds of thoracic notopodial chaetae: long, winged capillaries and shorter spatulate chaetae. Neuropodia with hooks.
Abdominal capillary chaetae are long, geniculate, winged capillaries. Abdominal notopodia with uncini.
Pygidium with a conical tip and two lateral eye groups.
Size:
Up to 20 mm.
Tube:
Membranous, encrusted with shells or foraminiferans.
Colour:
Body pale pink, posteriorly greenish; crown yellowish orange or brown.
Habitat:
In mud.
Distribution:
Eastern North Atlantic, Mediterranean, Skagerrak.
