Description:
Body short, maggot-like, with triannulate segments. Epidermis reticulate.
Prostomium small and bilobed; often retracted in peristomium. No eyes. Two long nuchal slits present. Mouth is ventral and surrounded by papillae.
A long, broad ventral furrow present.
Noto- and neuropodia simple mounds, each with a bundle of capillary and forked chaetae.
Gills, cirri and spines absent.
Pygidium with short papillae.
Size:
Up to 26 mm for 31 segments.
Colour:
Living animal flesh-pink.
Habitat:
In tubes in mud, shallow sublittoral.
Distribution:
Eastern North Atlantic, northern North Sea to Kattegat.
