Description:
Body long and slender or short and broad. Prostomium rounded anteriorly, usually with two palps. Body consists of numerous segments, the most anterior without chaetae. Gills, if present, on the anterior segments. Parapodial lobes are very small. Notopodial chaetae are capillaries, neuropodial chaetae compound. Animals are usually burrowing in sand, mud or gravel (Acrocirridae).
