Description:
Small worms. Body thin and thread-like with numerous segments. Prostomium conical, fused to peristomium, with or without a single antenna. Peristomium limited to lips.
First segment similar to following segments.
Parapodia biramous, both branches papillar or short ridges. Aciculae absent. Notopodia with slender postchaetal lobes. Dorsal flattened gills on a few anterior segments. Tentacular, dorsal and ventral cirri absent.
Chaetae all simple, often modified.
Pygidium with three or more cirri (Paraonidae).
Found in sand and mud.
