Familia Magelonidae

Description:
Worms with a long, slender body divided into two distinct regions by an intervening segment different from the others. Prostomium shovel-shaped, flattened with two long and papillated palps. Antennae and eyes are absent. Mouth ventral, with a very large proboscis. Peristomium limited to lips.
First segment achaetous. Tentacular, dorsal and ventral cirri absent.
Parapodia biramous with well-developed lappets; without aciculae. The modified 9th chaetiger with modified capillary chaetae. Other chaetae capillaries and dentate hooded hooks. Gills absent.
Pygidium with two cirri (Magelonidae).
