Description:
Body long, cylindrical, with numerous segments.
Prostomium pointed, conical, longer than wide.
Prechaetal lobes of anterior parapodia without a distinct shape, postchaetal lobes of anterior parapodia small and conical; both become longer in posterior segments, finger-like. Anterior parapodia with winged capillary chaetae only. Simple hooded hooks start on about chaetiger 20. These with 7-9 teeth, the main fang only slightly bigger. Aciculae and chaetae yellow.
Mandibles fused for two-thirds of their length, with a clear semicircular striation and anterior black colouration. Maxillae I hooked; maxillae II with 4 teeth; maxillae III and maxillae IV unidentate (A. hibernica-detail).
Size:
Over 60 mm for over 180 chaetigers.
Colour:
Light salmon-coloured.
Habitat:
Found in mud and various mixtures of mud with sand, shell debris, gravel, rocks, slag and clay from 1.5 to 6000 m.
Distribution:
Northeast Atlantic from Norway to northwestern Spain.
