Circeis spirillum

(Linnaeus, 1758)

Description:
Similar to Circeis armoricana but talon more slender in side-view.
Collar chaetae less geniculate with teeth not confined to the margin and arranged in serried ranks across the side (cross-striations).

Size:
Up to 23 chaetigers.

Tube:
Usually helically coiled as it grows away from the substratum, with translucent walls showing the orange body within.

Colour:
Transparent to orange-red.

Habitat:
On hydroids and bryozoans in strong currents; sublittoral.

Distribution:
Arctic, North Pacific, North Atlantic to Azores, North Sea, Skagerrak, Kattegat, Ă–resund and Bay of Kiel. California.
