Description:
Body is long, vermiform, with 18 chaetigers.
Prostomium small, with a big, oblique plate and a short rim with lateral incisions. Nuchal slits short. Eyes absent.
Glandular bands are clear on segments 1-3, less discernible bands on segments 4-6, broad glandular bands on segments 7-8.
4th chaetiger with a laterally incised collar. The following segments are very long.
Notopodia are short with two kind of capillary chaetae: chaetae with narrow wings and finely feathery chaetae.
Neuropodia are present from the first chaetiger onwards. 3 anterior neuropodia with 1-3 large spines, the following ones with hooks (C. cincta-detail).
The most posterior segments without chaetae.
Pygidium with a short funnel, with a crown of equal cirri.
Size:
Up to 200 mm for 18 segments.
Tube:
Animals occupy a straight tube, which is encrusted with sand grains. Tube is burried in the sendiment.
Colour:
Red anteriorly, brown posteriorly.
Habitat:
In sand. Low water.
Distribution:
Kattegat, Skagerrak.
