Description:
Body is short and slender with seven segments.
Prostomium with two transverse restrictions giving it a tripartite appearance. Prostomium with a surface pattern of irregularly granulated fields and granule-free areas. Trunk with transversely orientated granulated and non-granulated stripes. Lateral areas and especially pygidial appendages highly transparent. Ventral ciliation consisting of stiff adjoined cilia in a characteristic pattern, single cilia or pectinate rows. Species-specific pattern of ciliary fields on ventral surface of prostomium and pygidium; numerous single sensory cilia all over the body.
Pygidium with two, slightly laterally directed, relatively short, toe-like projections on each side, of which the outer ones are distinctly shorter.
Size:
Length about 440 µm; width about 80 µm.
Colour:
Transparent.
Habitat:
In the zone of damp sand at the level of the middle and upper slope of tideless beaches; in deeper layers of temporarily damp sand at low tide in the upper region of sheltered tidal beach slopes.

North Sea (Sylt, Amrum), Baltic, Irish Sea (North Wales), West Greenland, Mediterranean.
