Description:
Prostomium rounded, with four eyes: the anterior pair larger than the posterior. Antennae not annulated; palps more than twice as long as the antennae, not annulated. Peristomium longer than following segments.
Parapodia with subequal conical prechaetal and postchaetal lobes. Each dorsal cirrus (missing on chaetiger 1) with a long base with an internal acicula and a short ovoid terminal section. Ventral cirrus finger-shaped. Supra-acicular chaetae simple, finely toothed, distally bifid (D. erucaeformis-detail). Subacicular chaetae compound, with hooded bifid finely toothed hooked blades. No forked chaetae. Two long pygidial cirri lacking annulation and two papilla-like ones.
Mandibles short, X-shaped, with irregularly toothed anterior margins. Maxillae: two upper rows and two lower rows of toothed plates.
Size:
Up to 45 mm for 60 segments.
Colour:
Light red.
Habitat:
On sand and gravel with sponges and serpulid tubes, and on Lophelia coral reefs of the upper bathyal zone between 200 m and 260 m.
Distribution:
Along the Norwegian west coast; could also be expected on the North Sea coast.
