Exogone hebes

Description:
Body thin and filamentous.
Prostomium rounded pentagonal with four eyes, with lenses, in a trapezoid arrangement, often with two ocelli. Palps together conical, longer than the prostomium, extending as two long and broad lips. Antennae, oval or club-shaped, median antenna longer than peristomium. Lateral antennae very small, papilla-like.
Tentacular cirri and dorsal cirri even smaller than the lateral antennae. Dorsal cirri much shorter than the parapodial lobes, missing on the second parapodium. Ventral cirri a little longer than the dorsal cirri, as long as the parapodial lobes. 2 aciculae of which one with a terminal button; the other distal slimmer and distally bent.
Blades of compound chaetae relatively short and unidentate. Middle and posterior parapodia with one upper bidentate simple chaeta. Posterior parapodia with an additional bidentate lower chaeta (E. hebes-detail).
Pharynx with one anterior tooth.

Size:
Body up to 10 mm long for 30-45 segments.

Colour:
Body grey, cream or gold-coloured.

Habitat:
From the eulittoral down to 1000 m deep.

Distribution:
Arctic, North Atlantic up to Mediterranean, English Channel, southern North Sea, Skagerrak and Bay of Kiel.
