Description:
Prostomium quite long and slenger, composed of ca. eight (12-15) rings, with palps and antennae forming a cross at the tip.
Mid-body segments biannulate. Two prechaetal lamellae long and pointed, the notopodial shorter than the the neuropodial. Postchaetal lamellae paired and rounded. Dorsal cirri on body wall, ovoid; ventral cirri triangular.
Notopodial capillary chaetae in a single bundle. Neuropodial chaetae are compound, in two bundles.
Gills absent.
Short pharynx with papillae of two kinds: tall, slim and broad, conical ones.
Aileron with inner branch widely separated from outer branch.

Size:
Up to 65 mm long for 100 segments.

Colour:
Living animal pink with white spots. In alcohol light brown with a tesselate pattern.

Habitat:
In sand, gravel and mud.

Distribution:
Atlantic.
