Description:
A small, thin species.
Prostomium with two to four eyes. Antennae slender, almost as long as the prostomium.
Tentacular cirri of segment 1 and dorsal ones of segment 2 reaching segment 7-8. Ventral tentacular cirri of segment 2 shorter than segment width. Segment 3 with chaetae and ventral cirri of similar size and shape as those of the following segments. Dorsal cirri of median segments thin, shorter than parapodial lobes.
Parapodial lobes usually with four chaetae: chaetae number 1 (counted from dorsal side) with terminal end of shaft carrying three rounded teeth; chaetae number 2 with shaft and blade fused; chaetae number 3 and 4 similar, with two rounded teeth only.
Ventral cirri slender, arising from distal part of chaetigerous lobes (H. elongata-detail).
Proboscis long and thin, with diffusely distributed rounded to conical papillae. Terminal part unknown.
Pygidial cirri extremely long and thin, with extended tips.
Size:
Preserved specimen about 4 mm long for 60 segments.
Colour:
Preserved animals yellowish to green. Eyes brownish.
Habitat:
Sublittoral to 50 m in fine and coarse sand.
Distribution:
North Atlantic up to Mediterranean, North Sea, Skagerrak, Bahamas.
