Nephtys kersivalensis

McIntosh, 1908

Description:
Prostomium pentagonal with two antennae and two similar palps.
First segment with dorsal and somewhat longer ventral tentacular cirri.
Parapodia: shape of postchaetal lamellae broadly rounded always longer than the acicular lobes. Acicular lobes rounded to conical, prechaetal lamellae bilobed. Neuropodial postchaetal lamellae without vascular structures.
Gills start at segment 4 to the posterior end (N. kersivalensis-parapodium).
Pharynx with 22 longitudinal rows of 3 to 6 papillae with a mediodorsal papilla, which is almost 5 times as long as the longest subterminal papilla.

Size:
Up to 40 mm long for 80 to 85 segments.

Colour:
In alcohol cream-coloured. Chaetae light brown.

Habitat:
Vertical distribution from the upper sublittoral down to 295 m.

Distribution:
Widely distributed in the area.
