Nephtys longosetosa

Description:
Body slender, long and hairy.
Prostomium pentagonal with two antennae and two similar palps.
First segment with dorsal tentacular cirri as long as the antennae and ventral cirri longer than the palps.
Parapodia: postchaetal lamellae of the anterior neuropodia large, rounded and bilobed, not much longer than the acicular lobes. Postchaetal lamellae of the neuropodia much longer than the acicular lobes and bilobed. Acicular lobes of the notopodia simple, broadly rounded; of the neuropodia more or less bilobed, prechaetal lamellae rudimentary. Neuropodial postchaetal lamellae without vascular structures.
Gills start at segment 3 and continue to the posterior end (N. longosetosa-parapodium).
Pharynx with 22 longitudinal rows of 5 to 7 papillae and a mediodorsal papilla.

Size:
Up to 170 mm long for 120 segments.

Colour:
In alcohol yellow-white to transparent.

Habitat:
All kinds of sediments from the lower eulittoral down to 1000 m deep. Also brackish waters (upper mesohaline).

Distribution:
Widely distributed in the area.
