Description:
Body small, cylindrical.
Prostomium broadly rounded, separated from the peristomium by a weak groove; with many red ocelli and semicircular nuchal slits.
23 chaetigers. First 7 chaetigers with glandular bands anterior to the parapodia, next chaetigers with glandular areas around the parapodia and from the 14th segment onwards, glandular areas between the notopodia. Posterior segments each with a fully developed glandular band.
Notopodial chaetae are simply capillaries.
Anterior 3 neuropodia each with a single, strong spine, following neuropodia with a row of hooks. Last posterior segment without chaetae.
Pygidium funnel-shaped and ventrally longer than dorsally, with 14-27 unequal and triangular cirri.
Size:
Up to 55 mm for 23 chaetigers.
Tube:
Posterior end flattened and fixed to stones or mussel shells, covered with mud or fine sand. Diameter, outside 2.5 mm, inside 1.5 mm.
Colour:
Yellowish, with light glandular bands and reddish-brown stains on pro- and peristomium and anterior segments.
Distribution:
Arctic, north-east Atlantic up to Mediterranean, English Channel, northern North Sea, Skagerrak, Kattegat and northern Öresund.
