Ophryotrocha dubia

Description:
Prostomium broadly rounded, without eyes. Antennae and palps absent. Peristomium and apodous segment slightly longer than following chaetigers. All segments with incomplete rings of cilia.
Parapodium with two conical distal lobes, the ventral one the longer; with two aciculae. Dorsal cirri very small; no ventral cirri. Chaetae of three kinds: 1) two simple, minutely toothed hooks; 2) two compound chaetae with indistinctly bifid, minutely toothed blades; 3) one simple lower chaeta similar to the upper simple chaetae. Two short pygidial cirri.
Mandibles short, X-shaped, with unequally V-shaped, toothed anterior margins. Maxillary carriers fused to each other and to smooth hooked basal maxillae. Three to four pairs of toothed plates (maxillae) (O. dubia-detail).

Size:
Length 0.69 mm for eleven chaetigers.

Colour:
Colourless.

Habitat:
Found on muddy sand at 68 m.

Distribution:
Only one specimen known, from the northern North Sea (58° N).
