Description:
Body small and thin.
Prostomium rounded, without eyes. A pair of finger-shaped antennae and a pair of palps each with an ovoid basal section and a finger-shaped terminal one. Peristomium and apodous segment of same length as following chaetigers. Segments without cilia.
Parapodium with short conical prechaetal lobe and long conical postchaetal lobe. Two aciculae. Dorsal cirrus short, finger-shaped; ventral cirrus ovoid. Chaetae of two kinds: 1) 6-14 simple, slightly curved chaetae; 2) 6-10 compound chaetae with smooth hooked blades. In some parapodia there is a thin simple chaeta ventrally (O. longidentata-parapodium).
Two finger-shaped pygidial cirri and a short conical median one.
Mandibles X-shaped, the anterior part wing-like, the posterior part rod-like. Maxillary carriers fused to each other and to smooth hooked basal maxillae. Seven pairs of toothed plates (maxillae).
Size:
Up to 5.5 mm for up to 42 chaetigers.
Colour:
Brownish-grey with dark brown pigment on the peristomium.
Habitat:
Found on fine sand and mud at 100-110 m.
Distribution:
Skagerrak.
Remarks:
Male phase unknown. Eggs from 5th chaetiger, about 10 eggs per segment.
