Description:
Body small, but with up to 90 segments.
Prostomium broadly rounded, without eyes. Antennae and palps absent. Peristomium and apodous segment fused to the prostomium.
No parapodial lobes; one projecting stout acicula. Chaetae emerge directly from body wall. Numerous simple smooth blunt chaetae; no compound chaetae. Pygidial cirri absent.
Shovel-like mandibles enlarged anteriorly, with minutely scalloped anterior margins. Maxillary carriers fused to each other and to hooked smooth basal maxillae. Maxillae are one to three pairs of halfmoon-shaped toothed plates and three pairs of unidentate plates with elongate bases (P. isochaeta-detail).
Size:
Length 8 mm for 90 chaetigers.

Habitat:
Found on mud at 637-650 m.
Distribution:
Skagerrak.
