Polycirrus norvegicus

Description:
Body dorsally convex, ventrally flattened. Tentacular ridge convex. Upper lip dorsally high, usually in one narrow lobe, opening anteroventrally. Tentacles numerous, moderately long, thick and thin ones and transitory forms. Segments 1-3 ventrally fused, forming a moderately broad cushion-like, longitudinally striped structure. 8-9 paired, distinct ventral shields. Notopodial chaetae long, with feathery tips, starting at segment 3. 14-20 thoracic chaetigers. Uncinigerous tori from 8th to 13th chaetiger.

Size:
Up to 36 mm for about 60 segments.

Colour:
In alcohol whitish.

Habitat:
Mainly on coarse bottoms of pebbles or stones with shells and hydroids, often with some mud, also on rocky surfaces; 10-270 m.

Distribution:
East Greenland, Jan Mayen, Norwegian coast from Tromsö to Oslofjord, Swedish west coast, York, North Sea.
