Description:
Operculum with a cup-shaped ampulla, the distal plate concave or convex, with or without an eccentric projection which can be with or without distal protuberances, distal to thick smooth peduncle with a tapered wing on each side. Peduncle more robust than in Pomatoceros triqueter . Peduncle inserted medially on the operculum. 12-16 pairs of radioli, united at the base for the half of their length.
Collar chaetae, when present, bordered, scarcely geniculate with a slender knee, finely serrated and tapered distally.
Thoracic membrane wide.
Size:
Up to 15 mm, usually 12 mm an about 1.5 mm width.
Tube:
Tube white, about 4 cm long, 3 mm width, with a well-defined median keel and in adults two more vestigial ridges, one on each side.
Colour:
Unknown.
Habitat:
Warm temperate species. On rocks; lower shore and shallow sublittoral.
Distribution:
Britain and the Netherlands (Vlissingen).
Remarks:
P. lamarcki and Pomatoceros triqueter have been considered to be one species, but are recently regarded as separate species.
