Description:
Body small and thin.
Prostomium rounded anteriorly, with four red eyes and with a caruncle reaching the posterior margin of chaetiger 1. Anterior pair of eyes small and kidney-shaped, posterior pair large and irregular.
Segments 2-4, with a ciliated band on the dorsal side.
Notopodial postchaetal lobes of the first chaetiger fused to the upper margin of the first segment; neuropodial postchaetal lobes on this segment small and elongated. Following notopodial postchaetal lobes triangular, in chaetiger 3 and 4 very big, posteriorly becoming shorter and connected by a kind of collar across the dorsum. At the posterior end of the body, the collars disappear and notopodial lobes become rounded. Neuropodial postchaetal lobes are oval, largest on segment 3, posteriorly they become gradually smaller.
All parapodia with capillaries; from segment 12 onwards hooks on neuropodia; from segment 30-50 hooks also on notopodia. Hooks with a main tooth and 2 rows of 5-6 small teeth.
Two or three pairs of gills, starting at chaetiger 3. The gills are smooth and with cilia along their sides.
Pygidium with one long and two short cirri.
Size:
Up to 13 mm for 60 chaetigers.
Colour:
Yellowish.
Habitat:
On mud and sand; 15-70 m.
Distribution:
North-eastern Atlantic to Mediterranean, Skagerrak, Ă–resund.
