Description:
Body small, relatively broad.
Prostomium semicircular, broader than long, with four eyes in a trapezoid arrangement and normally two ocelli. Palps oval, fused at the base, as long as the peristomium. Median antenna a little longer than lateral ones. Lateral antennae a little longer than prostomium.
Peristomium about as long as the following segments and with 2 pairs of tentacular cirri. Dorsal tentacular cirri as long as median antennae. Ventral tentacular shorter.
Annulation on tentacular cirri and dorsal cirri more or less distinct. Dorsal cirri distinctly long up to 2.5 times as long as the segments width. Ventral cirri mostly a little longer than parapodial lobes.
Compound chaetae with long blades of variable length; lades of anterior six parapodia distally blunt, the following distally with fine tips.
An additional upper simple chaeta is present on all parapodia. In anterior 4-5 parapodia simple chaetae short and thick, in posterior parapodia capillary (S. longocirrata-detail).
Pharynx with weak papillae without teeth at the distal part.
Size:
Body up to 7 mm long for 50 segments.
Colour:
Transparent to yellow-brown, first segment often stronger coloured.
Habitat:
Upper eulittoral down to 500 m deep, on stones, rocks and mixed soft bottoms.
Distribution:
Widely distributed in the area.
