Tomopteris septentrionalis

Description:
Body short with long 17-24 long parapodia (T. septentrionalis-detail). Body posteriorly tapering but without tail. No rosette organs.
Prostomium with 4 small incisions anteriorly. Eyes large.
Length of cirriform appendages of the second segment at least half the body length.

Size:
Commonly about 20 mm in length, although oceanic specimens attain a length of 30 mm or more.

Colour:
Transparent.

Habitat:
Pelagic, mainly oceanic.

Distribution:
World-wide; North Sea to Baltic, Faeroes and Iceland.
