Typosyllis hyalina

Description:
Body long and thin.
Prostomium rounded pentagonal, with four eyes in a trapezoid arrangement and with or without two ocelli. Anterior pair larger than posterior pair. Palps oval, longer than the prostomium. Lateral antennae somewhat longer than palps, with about 8 rings. Median antenna longer, with 11-15 rings.
Tentacular cirri with 9-11 rings. Dorsal cirri alternating, with 6-7 and 8-12 rings.
Ventral cirri finger-like, smooth, as long as or somewhat shorter than the parapodial lobes.
Compound chaetae with bidentate blades. Posterior parapodia dorsally and ventrally also with a simple serrate, bidentate chaeta. 1 or 2 aciculae (T. hyalina-detail).
Proboscis with 10 papillae and a large tooth anteriorly.
Two pygidial cirri and often a little tail.

Size:
Up to 35 mm for over 100 segments.

Colour:
Transparent, anteriorly reddish with more or less obvious transverse banding.

Habitat:
On all substrata; eulittoral to 1400 m.

Distribution:
World-wide. Atlantic to English Channel, North Sea to Little Belt.
