Description:
Prostomium with or without antennae or palps.
Peristomium usually of two rings.
First segment with parapodia similar to following ones, without tentacular cirri.
Parapodia usually subbiramous (absent in Dinophilus , Trilobodrilus and Parophryotrocha isochaeta ), with notopodia smaller than neuropodia. Chaetae compound or simple. Dorsal and ventral cirri present or absent.
Pygidium with or without two, three or four anal cirri.
Pharynx eversible with a jaw apparatus (absent in Dinophilus , Trilobodrilus , Parapodrilus psammophilus ) consisting of a pair of mandibles, three or more pairs of maxillae and maxillary carriers that are often fused to the first maxillae (Dorvilleidae).
