Description:
Body long, vermiform, with 28-31 chaetigers; without obvious secondary annulation, but with a continuous ventral groove.
Prostomium conical, longer than wide, with a thin median process at the tip and 2 large nuchal slits. Eyes absent.
Parapodia with small prechaetal lobes. Notopodial chaetae longer than neuropodial ones.
Gills cirriform, starting at chaetiger 2, to chaetiger 7-11, then absent or rudimentary in mid-body, in 3-8 posterior segments present again and absent in the last 4 chaetigers.
Pygidial tube, cylindrical, longer than broad, caudally somewhat widened, with a short mediodorsal lamella and a medioventral cirrus.
Size:
Up to 19 mm for 34 segments.
Colour:
White or yellowish; in alcohol pale yellowish.
Habitat:
On sand or mud, between 7 and 4700 m.
Distribution:
Arctic, North Pacific, north Atlantic to Mediterranean, North Sea, Skagerrak and Kattegat, Antarctic.
