Description:
Body slender.
Prostomium elongated, oval, narrowing gradually to the caruncle. Caruncle reaching the middle of chaetiger 2. Prostomium with 4 eyes; anterior pair small, posterior pair formed by several small eye-spots.
Notopodial postchaetal lobes of the first chaetiger fused to the upper margin of the first segment. Following notopodial postchaetal lobes big and triangular, posteriorly becoming shorter. From segment 14 to 35, a kind of collar across the dorsum is formed by the notopodial postchaetal lobes. Neuropodial lobes are small and rounded; neuropodial postchaetal lobes rectangular with rounded corners, becoming shorter to the posterior part (P. multibranchiata-parapodium).
All parapodia with capillay chaetae. From segment 13-19, hooks on neuropadia; from segment 20-52, hooks on notopodia. Hooks with a main tooth and 2 rows of 4-5 small teeth. From segment 12-17 onwards, 1-2 sabre-chaetae present on the neuropodia.
Posterior noto- and neuropodia with hooks with 5-7 teeth.
Six to thirteen pairs of smooth, equally long laterally ciliated gills, starting at chaetiger 2.
Pygidium with one long and two short cirri.

Size:
Up to 35 mm for over 130 segments.

Colour:
Yellowish.

Habitat:
From 25-100 m.

Distribution:
North Sea, Skagerrak, Kattegat, North Atlantic to Mediterranean, South Africa, India, Australia.
